Due to the national and state declarations of emergency, town-wide changes have been made.  This page is an attempt to answer some common questions and we provide contact information at the bottom of this page if you do not find your answers here.

TOWN OFFICE
 
effective november 2, 2020 the town office will have new hours of operation.
monday from 8:30am to 7pm, and tuesday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:00pm.


we are limiting patrons to two at a time in the lobby, and require that masks be worn.  We are using a red light/green light system for entry through the front door and exiting will be through the side door.



RE-REGISTRATION:  
 
Motor Vehicles and Trailers: 
​Re-registrations may still be done online.  Visit: ​www.maine.gov/vehicle ; or, if you are unable to register online, you may renew at the Town office.
 
Boats:
Boaters are still encouraged to re-register their boats online @   www.maine.gov/boat or you may renew at the town office.

ATVs:
Current ATV registrations expire June 30, 2020.  If  the state of emergency has not been lifted by that time, or you did not re-register your ATV for the 19-20 year, you may do so online @  www.maine.gov/atv or you may renew at the town office.

 
NEW REGISTRATION:  
 
All new registrations for motor vehicles/trailers, boats, and atvs may now be done at the town office.
 

VITAL STATISTICS:

Birth, Death, Marriage Certificates:  May now be requested in person at the Town office
 
Marriage Licenses:   Marriage intentions will need to be completed to obtain a marriage license.

REAL ESTATE AND PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX:

Payments can be made in person, by mail, or over the phone by credit card.  We recommend calling the office to get the current balance due and mailing a check as the credit card option comes with an additional 2.5% charge by the portal company.

​Homestead and Veteran Exemption Applications:  The deadline set for a person to file an application for the Maine resident homestead or veteran property tax exemption is temporarily extended from April I until the commitment date of the municipality or 30 days after the termination of the emergency, whichever occurs first.

Personal Property Business Equipment: The deadline for a person to file an application for the business equipment tax exemption is temporarily extended from April 1 until the commitment date of the municipality or 30 days after the termination of the emergency, whichever occurs first.  
 

 

FIRE/POLICE/RESCUE:
 
In case of an emergency call 9-1-1 and help will be dispatched.

Please visit www.wardensreport.com to process a burn permit.  This process is free for Greene residents and will allow a one-day permit - from 9am to midnight - IF it is a low fire hazard day according to the Maine Forest Service.

You will need to print this permit and have it in hand during burning.


For non-emergency fire department questions, or you do not have access to a computer and printer for online services, please contact Fire Chief, John Soucy at 576-4852.
 

LIBRARY:

Library is now open to the public.  hours are Tuesday, wednesday and Thursday from noon to 7PM; friday and Saturday from 9AM to 3PM.  Visit their website:  www.jammlibrary.org for additional information.

Public Works department hours of operation:  summer hours: Monday through Thursday, 6am to 4:30pm; winter hours starting november 2, 2020 - Monday through friday, 6am to 2:30PM. 

TRANSFER STATION:
 
Transfer Station remains open for business as usual:

                Wednesday, Friday, Saturday 8am to 4pm.      Sunday 10am to 2pm.

For everyone’s safety, transfer station attendants will be limiting their contact with residents.  Please place your trash and recyclables in the proper locations.
